I used to play on my MacBook Pro, however I just got a new Windows 10 desktop especially so I can play the Sims without issues (the irony). I've also tested the bug with a new save file and the game still crashes. It mostly happens when I'm placing a retail lot, but it also happened while placing a residential lot. I tried deleting the cache files and it worked for a bit but the issue came back quickly. However, I keep getting lastUIexception files even when I try the game without mods.
I figured since my wifi connexion is terrible, it was the reason why.
